Balinese man jumps into the fire of burn coconut husks during the fire ritual on March 10, 2024 at traditional sub village of Nagi, in Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia. The mesabatan api ritual is held annually on the eve of Nyepi, the Hindu Day of Silence, the Balinese Caka New Year. The community in Pakraman Nagi village believe the mesabatan api ritual is a part of the cleansing the negative power on their self. Two groups of young men will be busy burning piles of dry coconut husks burst into flames, sending dozens of bare-breasted young men with headdresses and checkered cloths scurrying and kicking the burning husks. The group will bare-handedly grab two blazing coconut husks and threw them at their enemies, hitting them in the back. Others immediately took revenge, aiming at their opponents' faces. The celebration of the Nyepi festivities for Balinese Hindus in Indonesia, as the opportunity for self-reflection which is called mulat sarira. All the resident and visitors required to abide by the rules called Catur Brata Penyepian consist of amati geni (no open fires or flames), amati lelanguan (no pleasurable activities), amati karya (no work or labor) and amati lelungan (no journeys).
