The mighty Queen Mary 2 is just days away from setting sail after the most expensive refurbishment of any ship in history. Tens of millions of pounds have been spent on the 151,200-tonne ship as 2,500 workers complete the month-long major interior overhaul. The British-designed ship first took to the seas in 2004 for her maiden voyage and is still the biggest ocean liner in the world. The ship's owner Cunard said Queen Mary 2 was being remastered at an “unparalleled scale”. She is in Hamburg where the final touches are being made ahead of June 23 when the work is set to finish. Glamorous designs will feature signature colour schemes, new carpets and furniture as well as more decorative fixtures and fittings. Fifteen new single cabins and an additional 30 Britannia Club cabins have been constructed during the refit and the popular kennels will be expanded to cater for high demand. The Queen Mary 2, which cost £460 million to build, can carry up to 2,620 passengers and is the largest vessel ever to have been built for Cunard. It has a max speed of more than 30 knots and was built in France. She was given her name by the Queen in honour of her 1936 namesake ship RMS Queen Mary which retired in 1967.
