In this Thursday, June 19, 2014 file photo, a pangolin carries its baby at a Bali zoo in Bali, Indonesia. Although a global wildlife summit banned all trade of the pangolin, an anteater with a distinctive coat of hard scales, doubts remain whether that will stop the illegal traffic of pangolins in Africa fueled by a growing demand from Asian consumers, particularly Chinese. Pasar gazes into the camera from his branch at the International Animal Rescue sanctuary in Ciapus, Java, March 2016. After a brutal kidnapping by illegal pet traders, two adorable baby slow lorises have finally found peace and comfort in each other’s arms. At six to eight weeks old, Pasar and Warung were torn away from their mother in the Indonesian rainforest and stuffed into boxes ready to be sold in one of the notorious animal markets in Jakarta. The traders had filed down the terrified animals’ teeth because the endangered slow loris species has a gland inside its arm that secretes venom which the loris wipes on its teeth to create a poisonous bite. This file photo taken on November 10, 2016 shows dehorned rhinos roaming in the Kuduland Reserve as rangers take part in a joint intense anti- poaching training program with US military veterans in the Musina district In another life, Lynn was a sniper in Afghanistan, Damien trained paramilitary forces in Iraq, and John worked undercover infiltrating drug cartels in central America. Now all three are back in action, this time fighting what they describe as a “war” against poachers in southern Africa as the killing of rhinos escalates into a crisis that threatens the survival of the species. In this December 13, 2005 file photo, two Laysan albatross do a mating dance on Midway Atoll in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. The Battle of Midway was a major turning point in World War II's Pacific theater. But the remote atoll where thousands died is now a delicate sanctuary for millions of seabirds, and a new battle is pitting preservation of its vaunted military history against the protection of its wildlife. Midway, now home to the largest colony of Laysan albatross on Earth, is on the northern edge of the recently expanded Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, now the world's biggest oceanic preserve.
