In this October 24, 2018 photo, a Venezuelan male red siskin takes flight in Vargas, Venezuela. The finch-like red siskin is vanishing from the wild at an alarming rate, falling prey to a century of shrinking forests and poachers cashing in on their brilliant red feathers, prized around the world by breeders of exotic birds. In this picture taken on November 13, 2018, a great cormorant rests at the Mai Po Nature Reserve in Hong Kong, a haven for thousands of migratory birds. Located on the northwestern corner of Hong Kong, the Mai Po and Inner Deep Bay wetlands was recognised as a “Wetland of International Importance” under the Ramsar Convention in 1995. The 1,500- hectare area acts as a key way station and wintering site along the East Asian- Australasian Flyway where 50 million migratory waterbirds travel through each year. This little kingfisher clearly didn't read the sign when it landed itself a minnow in a no fishing zone. Taxi driver Paul Bird, 52, from Newmarket, Suffolk, UK, captured this amusing moment whilst out looking to photograph kingfishers in Norfolk, an hour drive from his home. Paul explained: “There are a total of six perches the bird was using from which to fish, one of them being the No Fishing sign”. (Photo by Paul Bird/Solent News & Photo Agency)
