A tourist dressed in Thai traditional rented costumes uses an umbrella to protect herself from sunlight amid hot weather at the Temple of Dawn, or Wat Arun, in Bangkok, Thailand, 06 May 2024. Thailand is facing a severe heatwave as the Thai Meteorological Department warned about the extremely hot weather with temperatures soaring to record highs over 44 degrees Celsius in some areas and advised the public to avoid prolonged outdoor activities from a highly dangerous heat level index that directly hazardously affects health conditions. A total of 38 people have been reported dead of heatstroke in Thailand from February to May 2024, according to Dr Atthapol Kaewsamrit, Deputy Director-General of the Health Department. The United Nations revealed in its recent report that Asia was identified as the global disaster center and anticipated to be significantly affected by climate related disruptions such as extreme temperatures, severe heatwave, floods, storms and melting glaciers.
