Poeple wade through the high water in Venice, Italy, 14 October 2015. Venice saw its first 'acqua alta' of the year with water 105 cm above sea level causing low-lying areas of the lagoon city to be flooded. An acqua alta is a natural phenomenon and occurrs when especially high tides caused by the moon's gravitational pull coincide with a strong scirocco that forces water from the Adriatic into the Venetian lagoon.
