Martin Joe Laurello, originally Martin Emmerling, was born in Germany around 1886. He was a sideshow performer who could turn his head a full 180 degrees. He performed with groups such as Ripley's Believe it or Not, Ringling Brothers, and Barnum & Bailey. He moved to America in 1921. He also trained dogs to do things such as acrobatics.

A wild leopard mauled six people in a village in rural India, including police and forest rangers. The attack happened yesterday in Prakash Nagar near Siliguri in West Bengal, a village of about 3,000 people. The leopard was finally tranquilized and died at a veterinarian's office from the barrage of blows from the police and forest rangers.

The preserve rescued exotic big cats living in captivity that had been abused or were in need of help, one of which the family created a close bond with. Neil the lion lived with the family in their home, and played an active role in the day to day activities of the preserve.
