A spate of shark attacks in Australia has left some of world's top surfing beaches deserted and many people having second thoughts about taking a swim as the summer approaches. This year the Catatumbo Lightning was approved for inclusion in the 2015 edition of Guinness World Records, dethroning the Congolese town of Kifuka as the place with the world's most lightning bolts per square kilometer each year at 250. Scientists think the Catatumbo, named for a river that runs into the lake, is normal lightning that just happens to occur far more than anywhere else, due to local topography and wind patterns. Hauling cocaine out of the remote valley is about the only way to earn decent cash in this region where a farmhand earns less than $10 a day. Beyond extinguishing young lives, the practice has packed Peru's highland prisons with cocaine backpackers while their bosses evade incarceration. (Photo by Rodrigo Abd/AP Photo)

A woman loyal to the Houthi movement holds a rifle as she takes part in a parade to show support to the movement in Sanaa, Yemen September 6, 2016. Dressed in the head to toe garments which obscured their faces, the female fighters brandished machine guns, rocket launchers and grenades. The women also wore hats as they showed support for the Shiite Houthi rebels. The Saudi-led Arab coalition launched a military campaign against the Houthis and their allies in March 2015. It was after the rebels closed in on Gulf-backed President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi in his southern refuge of Aden, forcing him into exile. The female protesters have pledged to remain supportive and do whatever they can to back the ongoing resistance against the kingdom. Yemen is in the grip of its most severe crisis in years, and is on the brink of civil war. (Photo by Khaled Abdullah/Reuters)
