Cycling jerseys, part of a collection belonging to French cycling fan Gerald, hang from a line during the 4th stage of the Tour de France cycling race from Seraing in Belgium to Cambrai in France, July 7, 2015. Photographing the Tour de France cycling race comes with highs and lows: the buzz from capturing just the right image, the tedium of long journeys, the painstaking set-up of equipment, the breath-taking scenery. Reuters photographers have worked not only to capture the thrills and spills on the roads and mountain passes. They have also shot a set of pictures showing their own quirky view from behind the scenes as they travelled through the Netherlands, Belgium and France. (Photo by Eric Gaillard/Reuters)

Jazmin, 6, sister of Jose Luis, receives Isoniazid Preventive Therapy in Carabayllo in Lima, Peru July 14, 2016. At least 30,000 Peruvians are infected with tuberculosis, an ancient disease that killed 1.8 million globally last year, more than AIDS-related and malaria deaths combined. Partners in Health, a Boston-based non-profit that works with Peru's health ministry, offers a simple solution. It trains community volunteers to tend to tuberculosis sufferers in their homes – ensuring patients take medicine daily and helping them navigate the public health bureaucracy. A worker makes auto parts on a machine inside a workshop in Faridabad, India, December 24, 2015. Car makers such as Maruti Suzuki India and Hyundai Motor see huge growth in India, set to become the world's third-largest auto market by 2020 as millions buy their first new car. Price tags can be as low as $3,000 for a new Tata Motors Nano mini-car. India is also becoming a low-cost export hub for global car makers such as General Motors and Ford Motor. As the sector expands, some of the work is sub-contracted out to small factories operating on paper-thin margins, where poor contract workers often have little or no access to safety equipment or health benefits. Christian Balderosdasco, 31, is being pulled up a mud pit after diving for 3 hours to look for gold on March 22, 2017 in Paracale, Philippines. Apart from tunneling and sifting sand, locals dive down murky swamps with the aid of a compressor with air flowing in a small tube for breathing, as they blindly swim under the mud for up to four hours to look for tiny rocks containing gold particles. For decades, local residents at Paracale town work in hazardous conditions scavenging under the earth and diving into tunnels filled with mud using only makeshift tools to mine for gold, often placing their health and lives at risk. “Whether that means getting up way before the sun, like I do most days, going out somewhere that I’m not comfortable or just trying to get different angles or styles of photos, I am trying to display the crazy beauty of the ocean, and usually moments that literally last less than a split second”. (Photo by Ryan Pernoski/Caters News Agency)

These kaleidoscopic images are the work of one persistent photographer’s efforts to capture vibrant hues at the exact moment a wave breaks. Ryan Pernofski‘s stunning shots feature brilliant yellows, reds, blues and purples as an array of sunlight hits the water at the perfect time. What’s even more impressive: Ryan, a 27-year-old Australian, began shooting his popular masterpieces without using a professional camera, taking his iPhone out into the water instead. Ryan began experimenting with this method in 2012, using an underwater housing to protect his phone, as he could not afford a professional camera. (Photo by Ryan Pernoski/Caters News Agency)

Farmers arrange bunches of water lilies after harvesting them from the wetlands in Barishal, Bangladesh on March 21, 2023. Floating through 10,000 acres of canal, farmers use their little boats to fetch the flowers. They break through the layer of water lilies on the surface of the water as they practice the traditional craft of picking water lilies by hand. Every flower is carefully hand-picked, collected inside the farmers' little wooden boat, tied in bundles, and sold to markets. After working for an entire day, a farmer can pick around 80 to 120 bundles of water lilies. Water lily harvesting is a major source of income for more than 250 families in the area.
