The in-vitro burger, cultured from cattle stem cells, the first example of what its creator says could provide an answer to global food shortages and help combat climate change, was fried in a pan and tasted by two volunteers. Hong Yi is a Malaysian architect and artist whose impressive portfolio includes work for Chicago’s Union Station, the Melbourne Hall of Music, and alternative medium portraits using coffee stains or tea bags. Her unorthodox approach to creation has led her to her most recent blog project. Over the course of 31 days, Hong Yi (who also goes by Red) will post art pieces made from food. So far, the pieces range from simpler ones of a watermelon sailboat to a complex recreation of Hokusai’s “The Great Wave.”

Bat seller Sukarwati shows a skinned bat on July 30, 2009 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Sukarwati and her family have hunted bats in the Imogiri region for generations, capturing more than 800 bats per month. The Sukarwati family believe that the meat from the bat heals asthma and respiratory problems and it is a great honour for them knowing that the meat that they provide will help ease people's health ailments
