The Caldor Fire burns in the El Dorado National Forest south of Pollock Pines Tuesday August 17, 2021. The fire burned over 22,000 acres and destroyed dozens of structures. The fire was fueled by a dry forest, as firefighters braced for an offshore wind event they worried would worsen the fire later on during the week. Resources across the state were stretched thin. Smoke from the fire was visible at 30,000 feet. (Photo by Stuart W. Palley for The Washington Post)

A lone lodgepole pine stands in an area logged after an infestation of the mountain pine beetle killed most of the trees in the stand in Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest September 12, 2019 near Deer Lodge, Montana. According to the 2017 Montana Climate Assessment, the annual average temperatures in the state has increased 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit since 1950 and is projected to increase by approximately 3.0 to 7.0 degrees by mid-century. As climate change makes summers hotter and drier in the Northern Rockies, forests are threatened with increasing wildfire activity, deadly pathogens and insect infestations, including the mountain pine beetle outbreak. Although the number of new trees infested each year by the pine beetle has reduced since the height of the outbreak around 2012, the insects have killed more than six million acres of forest across Montana since 2000. Trees with new red flushing leaves at Lodhi Gardens in New Delhi, India, 03 April 2019. According to the World Health Organization, Delhi has the worst air of any major city in the world but the Indian capital is still home to a plethora of striking trees and flowers, most of which are in full bloom in the spring season. Spring colors can be spotted among others at the city's landscaped roundabouts and public parks, like the Lodhi Gardens and Nehru Park that maintained by the Delhi's horticulture department, the New Delhi municipal council and local municipal corporations.
