The Islamic Emirate's Supreme Leader, Mawlawi Hebatullah Akhundzada, on 02 April 2023 has imposed a strict ban on the cultivation, use, and trafficking of all illicit drugs, Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said. This came after the Anti-Narcotics Management Forces of the Balkh Province Police Command reported that in the past year, 2,200 acres of land have been cleared of poppy and hashish cultivation. He has received orders from the province, and has asked for more attention and support from the Islamic Emirate and businesses to help promote the use of solar energy in the country.
