Al-Fatah Islamic Boarding School was founded in 1950 by KH. Kholid Umar, also known as Kyai Mahmud. Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia have around 22,000 students, including those from neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia, Brunei and Thailand. The Al-Fatah boarding school occupies a 50-hectare site in Temboro Village, Karas District, Magetan, East Java. It is the largest center for developing the ideology of the Tablighi Jamaat in Southeast Asia. The main goal of the Al-Fatah Islamic Boarding School is to learn about the Prophet, produce religious experts, spread Islam to all walks of life, improve oneself and uphold the da'wah journey of Allah's Apostle. The school's magnitude of the influence of religion on the lives of residents in Temboro has made this area known as the “Village of Medina”. Students at the Pesantren, also known as “Santri”, are separated from their families and spend their days studying Islamic scriptures, reading the Quran and learning Arabic in addition to other activities which begins with the morning prayer at 4am till midnight.
