Norway has become the first NATO member to have compulsory conscription for women as well as men in the army. Recently, the first batch of army recruits joined the ranks in The Armored Battalion in the Norwegian Army located in Setermoen in northern Norway. The move will see women from the age of 18 women being drafted in to serve the country’s armed forces for a set period of time –sharing everything from equipment, training regimes and even living quarters with their male comrades. It means Norway joins a small set of countries around the world including Israel where national service is compulsory for both sexes.
