In this July 10, 2017, photo, Dana R. Mitchell, a 47-year-old minister at Destiny World Church outside of Atlanta, poses with a King James version of the minister's manual and a 9mm handgun. She's among the ranks of the nation's black women who own a firearm. Mitchell said she had been in a household with firearms. “I wasn't a stranger to them but I always had that fear”. That changed after she was invited her to the range with some other women, she kept seeing news reports of violence and a friend had her purse stolen while pumping gas. "I woke up one day watching TV and I said, you have to get over this," she said. She's now more aware of her surroundings and is learning how to prepare herself in case she becomes a potential victim. “I don't want this sweet face to fool you”. A herdsman performs for visitors on the prairie at Xilinhot, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, July 2, 2017. Horses are important in Mongolian culture, which has more than 300 words for horses and a further 200 just for their color. However, riding a motorcycle once took place of horse-riding. The number of horses owned by herdsmen in the region has fallen from 2.4 million in 1975 to less than 700,000 in 2007. Since breeding horses was not profitable, many families sold their horses and bought motorcycles and cars. To preserve the endangered Mongolian horse and inherit the horse culture, protection efforts were made. In 2011, the region set up three breeding bases for Mongolian horses with a total investment of 18 million yuan per year to preserve Mongolian horses. Such protection efforts have seen the number of horses in Inner Mongolia increase 25 percent in a decade, reaching 880,000 last year. Also Horse-related events are also increasing in the region. Abbas Yusuf, 23, known as Hyena Man, feeds a hyena on the outskirts of Harar, Ethiopia, February 23, 2017. Hyenas roam the streets of the ancient walled city of Harar in eastern Ethiopia every night, seeking scraps of meat to drag to the nearby caves. But residents are not afraid. A family chosen by the town to feed the animals is not daunted by the task despite the dangers that are associated with coming into close quarters with such wild animals. Abbas Yusuf, known as Hyena Man, learnt to feed the hyenas from his father, Yusuf Mume Salleh, who fed them for 45 years before passing the job to his son 13 years ago. “Hyenas have never attacked the people of Harar after my father started feeding them, unless you harm their babies”, Abbas Yusuf told Reuters.
