Two Seoul youngsters have fun on the Han River ice with their home-made, single-sleds, called a solme on February 23, 1959. The sleds are made of small pieces of wooden board with two or three pieces of iron bar beneath. The Han River in South Korea, once the scene of underscribable tragedy during the Korean War, is now a recreational spot for youngsters during the winter months. There they skate and frolic. During the summer it becomes a swimming place. The bridge, which once bore ugly scars of war, has now been completely rebuilt to give the river an inspiring background. Twice during the war, thousands of South Koreans crossed the river, which runs through the southern part of Seoul, the capital, to take refuge in the south from Communist invasion.
