These graphic images show a pod of whale being rounded up and slaughtered by villagers on a remote Atlantic island on July 30, 2018. Every summer, thousands of pilot and beaked whales are massacred in bays across the Danish-owned Faroe Islands as inhabitants prepare for the harsh winter months ahead. Cambridge University student Alastair Ward was visiting the archipelago to celebrate his graduation when he and a friend stumbled across the bloodbath. He said: “I couldn't believe how many whales there were. They drove them into the bay with boats then hacked them to pieces. Even the children were getting involved, pulling on the ropes and jumping on the carcasses”. (Photo by Alastair Ward/Triangle News)
