Polish doctors have implanted the world's smallest artificial cardiac pacemaker. The device is 24 mm long, 6 mm in diameter, it weighs 1 gram and is 90 percent smaller and lighter than other pacemakers used traditionally. The pacemaker which need no electrode is placed directly in the chamber of the heart.
