An electric eel (Electrophorus electricus) is pictured in this undated handout photo obtained by Reuters December 4, 2014. Electric eels can unleash a potent electrical jolt to wallop their hapless prey. But this zap is not used merely to stun other fish. A new study shows that the eels use it to exert a form of remote control over their victims, causing fish that may be hiding to twitch, thus exposing their location, or inducing involuntary muscle contraction to incapacitate their prey. For 25 years camel rides on the beach have given visitors to Australia's holiday coast a rare experience available only in a handful of locations in the country. Australia's long history with the 'ships of the desert' goes back to the 1800s when they were imported from Afghanistan and India for use as transportation across Australia's vast deserts before being released into the wild following their replacement by motorised transport. This inquisitive creature looks like hes sure that bird is the word – after appearing to be absorbed in a bird spotters guide. The tiny Lappmeisen bird – native to Norway – looks engrossed in the young twitchers book – and appears keen to read about himself. But the humorous picture is the clever work of Norwegian father and son Geir Arne and Skjalg-Helmer Vian – who spent hours setting up the shot. (Photo by Caters News)

If this majestic dove thought it was safe from predators perching on the branch of a tree, it was wrong – and became supper for a baby python. Ranger Marc Lindsay Rea came across the incredible sight as he drove through the Madikwe Game Reserve, in South Africa. The unfortunate dove had taken refuge on the branch of a buffalo thorn tree – presumably thinking it was a perfect lookout point to spot predators. (Photo by Marc Lindsay/Caters News)

This is the incredible moment a sperm whale gives birth, with several midwives escorting the newborn to the surface for the babys first breath. Quickly the group usher the newborn towards the surface as the weak mother watches on. (Photo by Kurt Amsler/Caters News)

A sad-looking elephant was forced to stand out in the rain – while others took shelter beneath a nearby tree. Its companions watched as the young male stared into the distance with a thunderstorm fast approaching.
