In this aerial view, the tower of the Cerro Dominador concentrated solar and photovoltaic power plant stands atop the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places with the highest solar radiation on earth on August 28, 2022 in Maria Elena, Chile. The concentrated solar power plant (110MW) uses a series of 10,600 mirrors (heliostats), that track the sun, reflecting solar radiation to a receiver on the upper part of a 250 meter tower, the second tallest structure in Chile. The plant, managed by EIG Global Energy Partners, became fully operational in 2021and is the only such concentrated solar plant in Latin America. The complex also contains a solar photovoltaic power plant (100 MW) for a combined output of 210MW. The project is part of Chile's national renewable energy program with the goal of providing 20 percent of the nation's energy needs from renewable sources by 2025. (Photo by John Moore/Getty Images)
