The feminist movement FEMEN tried to break into French Justice Ministry premises October 15, 2012, accusing French authorities of tolerating the rape of minors. The attempted break-in also featured the participation of Dominican nun Veronique. The protest gesture came in response to the acquittal after a 13-year trial of a group of ten youths accused of raping several girls aged between 15 and 16. In a statement issued by FEMEN, the feminist group said “The French justice system is involved in the gang rape of underage girls. Should the decision not be rectified, FEMEN activists will embark on a mission: punish those responsible with castration”. The statement also makes a specific reference to Dominique Strauss-Kahn's “impunity”, adding “Paris is no longer the capital of love, but of rapists”.

After a four-week trial in Fontenay-sous-Bois near Paris, four of the accused were found guilty of taking part in gang-rapes but 10 were acquitted last week. The sentences were far lighter than those recommended by the state prosecutor, who had called for prison sentences of five to seven years for eight of the men.
