Travel photographer Amos Chapple recently crossed into Turkmenistan on a three-day transit visa and was able to photograph many of the sights and monuments in Ashgabat, the capital and largest city. Turkmenistan is a single-party country, a former Soviet state, run by a president at the center of a cult of personality.

It's rare in puppies, but when it happens it causes them to lie flat on their chests with their legs perpetually splayed out. A dog sanctuary in Mexico is the first of its kind as it provides troubled canines with a safe and loving home. Milagros Caninos (Miracle Dogs) is a sanctuary in Mexico City that takes in abused, elderly, terminally ill, and disabled dogs.
