Tango instructor Fernando Waisberg (R) and Isabella Waisberg (L) pose for a photograph during a Tango lecture session in Taipei, Taiwan, 14 April 2019 (issued 18 April 2019). Taiwan has developed its own Tango, with a strong Japanese influence; the accompanying music features lyrics in Taiwanese and Mandarin, the pace slower and simpler than the original. Taiwanese Tango is now a popular phenomenon among people over 40, and is also a subject little studied inside and outside of the island. (Photo by Ritchie B. Tongo/EPA/EFE)

Breath of an Arctic fox by Marco Gaiotti, Italy. Marco was watching this little Arctic fox as it incessantly called another nearby. Gradually he noticed the fox’s wet breath was quickly freezing in the air after each call. It was late winter in Spitsbergen, Svalbard, and the air was -35C (-31F). Photographing Arctic foxes is often frustrating, as they are normally running around fast in search of food, but this one was very relaxed and let Marco get close enough to focus on it, with the light glowing perfectly in the background. Action on the catwalk during the Congo fashion week. (Photo by Olivia Acland/The Guardian)

The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s misfortunes have often eclipsed its good news, with ongoing armed conflicts and most recently an Ebola outbreak. Much of the world knows little of the country’s vibrant arts scene, and last weekend in the capital, Kinshasa, models showed off daring new looks dreamed up by local designers on the catwalk.
