In this Monday, September 22, 2014 photo provided by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, a young cougar is released back into Utah's mountains by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources in an undisclosed site in central Utah. These stunning photographs may look like alien planets, but they are actually satellite images of planet Earth. Commercial satellite company DigitalGlobe recently released the images as a way of highlighting the incredible detail of their imagery – the highest-resolution commercial satellite imagery in the world. Some of the images – taken above Afghanistan, Algeria, Peru, Russia and the United States – look more like abstract works by Mondrian than segments of the globe. At the dead of night, the photographer – known to his Instagram followers as Dark Cyanide – heads out to look for hidden gems, like abandoned stations, provisions and tunnels. His intriguing images feature vibrant streaks, graffiti, and tight framing – and by adding individuals to some to some of shots, he is also able to depict the incredible scale of some of the tunnels.
