A talented artist has created breathtaking intimate portraits by using detailed maps of the world as his canvas. Kacper Kowalski was born in 1977. With a degree in architecture, he focuses on aerial photography. Both a pilot and a photographer, he has unique control over each shot. As a result he captures previously unseen natural environments and ordinarily inaccessible cityscapes. In this way unreal, almost graphic pictures come into being. They show patterns, symmetries and asymmetries created by humans and the nature.

Every year in Fairbanks, Alaska, the World Ice Art Championships takes place, and it is no cute little side hobby. Praised as one of the world’s largest ice sculpting competitions and exhibitions, the World Ice Art Championships has grown into a month-long event featuring more than 70 teams from around the world. The works are stunning and often massive in both size and visual appeal.

At 19 inches high, the Flatmobile is the world’s lowest street legal car. It just so happens to be a replica of the Batmobile and has a jet engine that shoots 20 foot flames out of the rear! Ground clearance is at a whopping 2 inches! You could probably park this thing under a large SUV at your local supermarket.

Architectural photographer Victor Enrich has shared with ArchDaily a series of 88 images — one for every key in the classical piano — exploring the various formal possibilities of the NH Deutscher Kaiser Hotel in Munich, Germany. “I found it beautiful,” says Enrich, “to connect two distinct artistic disciplines such as photography and computer graphics with the piano.” See further illustrations and read a full description of his thought process following the break.

Artist Johnson Tsang has been posting an amazing series of process photos over on his blog that demonstrate how he makes many of his bizarre ceramic creations. One piece that really stood out is called ‘A Painful Pot’, which is a functional teapot being squeezed by a dragon, its head functioning as the spout.
