Artist and photographer Carl Warner began his career in landscape and still photography, working many years in the advertising industry. Seeking new inspiration and direction one day, he happened upon a market with Portobello mushrooms that reminded him of trees from an alien world. This would become his first foodscape and the start of a new and exciting direction in his career.

We had been many times with OK results, but this morning everything lined up perfectly and I was rewarded with this split-second moment in time under some amazing morning light”. This image was taken purely by chance, when Fujioka happened to pass a group of schoolgirls striking a popular social media pose in Hiroshima in 2017. “I didn’t even notice the Atomic Bomb Dome (war memorial) behind them when I photographed this image – the girls probably didn’t either.
