When rations run short on Wolf Island, in the remote northern Galápagos, the sharp-beaked ground finches become vampires. Their sitting targets are Nazca boobies and other large birds. The finches rely on a scant diet of seeds and insects, which regularly dries up, so they drink blood to survive. ‘I’ve seen more than half a dozen finches drinking from a single Nazca booby,’ says Tom. It looks like an underwater tornado, but a diver was actually stuck in the middle of a huge school of fish. The fish swarmed around Mika Woyda in their thousands as she swam off the coast of Cabo Pulmo, Mexico. Her husband Caine Delacy snapped the breath-taking images of Mika in scenes he revealed he had never witnessed in 20 years of diving.
