South African Sangomas are wizards and witches who are supposedly chosen by their ancestors to follow a traditional training and go through a rite of passage after which they become Sangomas and can cure and help people. They are so respected and trusted that western medical authorities have actually advised the government of South Africa to develop its cooperation with Sangomas in order to improve hygiene and health among the population. Today is graduation day for Trissa, 25, a Sangoma student in Tembisa, near Pretoria. Thanks to the help of the spirits of her ancestors, she has found a cow that had been hidden. The cow has then been killed by Sangoma Thelma and Trissa is now drinking its blood, thus becoming a Sangoma and changing her name to Nomadlozi. Location: Tembisa, near Pretoria, South Africa. “Husky is a general term for several breeds of dogs used as sled dogs. Huskies were originally used as sled dogs in northern regions but are now also kept as pets. The word “husky” is a corruption of the derogative term “Eskie”, also given to the Esquimaux tribes that came into contact with Europeans who made early expeditions into their lands. The most common huskies are the Siberian Husky and the Alaskan Husky”. – Wikipedia

Looking for a reason to visit the Philippines? This mermaid school should do the trick. No, seriously, there’s an actual school that will teach you how to be a mermaid. It’s called the Philippines Mermaid Swimming Academy. A couple of years ago, the academy was founded by Anamie Saenz and Normeth Preglo. The duo was looking for a new fitness craze and thought of mermaids! It’s all pretty simple; students are given mermaid tails that help them focus on their core muscles while they swim around like Ariel. If you’re really looking to get involved, you can kick things up a notch with mermaid scuba diving and mermaid water scootering. The best part about the mermaid school? You can be any age and any gender – it really doesn’t matter! All you need to do is pull together $40 for an introductory class. You get to use a mermaid tail, and you’ll also get photos while taking part in the class. (Photo by Philippine Mermaid Swimming Academy/Exclusivepix Media)

Some are in it just for the money, others to help buy a meal. Then there are those who trade for fun or to spend time among friends. Millions of investors – pensioners, security guards, high-school students – dominate China's stock markets, conducting about 80 percent of all trades. Retirees gather in brokerage houses dotted around China also to enjoy some company and savour the air conditioning on hot days. Some start as young as 13, trading from home with an eye on future careers in finance. Winning isn't guaranteed. This year, among the most turbulent in China's financial history, its stock markets more than doubled in the six months to May, only to crash amid concerns that growth in the country, which makes everything from cars to steel, is slowing faster than previously thought.
