The focus of the german photographer michael wolf's work is life in mega cities. Many of his projects document the architecture and the vernacular culture of metropolises. Wolf grew up in Canada, Europe and the United States, studying at UC Berkeley and at the Folkwang School with Otto Steinert in Essen, Germany. He moved to Hong Kong in 1994 where he worked for 8 years as contract photographer for Stern magazine. Since 2001, Wolf has been focusing on his own projects, many of which have been published as books.

Just outside of a Nevada ghost town, Rhyolite, is the Goldwell Open Air Museum. The museum was created by a group of Belgian artists and consists of seven outdoor sculptures dramatically using the Mojae Desert as a backdrop. The Last Supper, created by the late artist Charles Szukalski, is a piece that was due to last only a couple of years but withstood time and nature since 1984. Men from the local community were covered in linen and plaster to create the eerie forms, reminiscent of Da Vinci's last supper. It is a truly unique environment and piece of art in the great American desert.

Fashion designer John Galliano brought another batch of his Mad Max-inspired fashion to the Ready-To-Wear show in Paris today. You have the bloody chiseled bodies, the bizarre headgear and the decorative nooses. Maybe fetishizing the collapse of civilization is one step towards making peace with it? Child beauty pageants are a billion-dollar industry in the U.S. While some critics see the pageants as an exploitation of innocents, others—particularly pageant parents—view the competitions as a way for a young talent to enter the entertainment industry. Shows such as Toddler & Tiaras have examined the behind-the-scenes drama of these tightly orchestrated contests, but now a show of Susan Anderson’s photographs at L.A.’s Kopeikin Gallery (through December 24), puts the glamour and excess of child beauty pageants on a pedestal for our contemplation.

Steve Wheen understands that nobody likes to pay a pile of taxes only to hit potholes on their way to work every day, so he started filling up the pesky cracks in East London with mini living worlds comprised of soil, plants, and adorable props. The guerrilla gardener creates these mini (mostly domestic) scenes on quiet streets, dead end lanes, and foot paths, snaps photographs of his work, and then removes the props so that nobody gets a chair in their tire! When he's satisfied with his projects, he documents them over at The Pothole Gardener.

“Artist of the light”. While shooting sunrise in the Vermilion lakes area of Banff national park, Canada, I met a fellow photographer on the scene. Most of the time, we tried not to get in each other's way, however, just by accident, I snapped a picture with him in it working on his tripod settings, and it turned out to be a great photo compared to my sunrise shots.
