A girl stands with arms outstretched at North Narrabeen on January 27, 2024 in Sydney, Australia. Around 30 indigenous children from Brewarrina, Weilmoringle, and Goodooga in the far North West NSW travelled to Sydney to participate in the program. The initiative is part of the Bush to Beach programme, which now in its 19th year, gives indigenous children a unique opportunity to learn and explore Sydney's beach culture. The efforts are made possible entirely by volunteers, donations and sponsorship. Bush to Beach is a charity dedicated to inspiring hope, confidence, and self-esteem and promoting education for Aussie bush kids, a release by the charity said. This trip is a reward for school attendance and an opportunity for the kids to see that there is another world outside their community and help develop confidence and self-esteem, according to Bush to Beach co-founder Jack Cannons. In this photo taken on August 29, 2024, an Afghan burqa-clad woman walks past an energy drink advertisement at Kandahar airport in Kandahar. The Taliban government has purged many signs of Western influence but a stimulant drink craze that arrived with US soldiers remains, and has even sprouted a thriving domestic industry. Alcohol is outlawed in Afghanistan but caffeine-rich energy drinks are guzzled by secret police, fed by mothers to suckling children and advertised on billboards more than even Taliban state propaganda. Cubs of the Simba East pride: too young to kill but old enough to crave meat. Adult females, and sometimes males, do the hunting. Zebras and wildebeests rank high as chosen prey in the rainy season. (Photo by Michael Nichols/National Geographic via The Atlantic)

“Serengeti National Park encompasses 5,700 square miles of grassy plains and woodlands near the northern border of Tanzania, and is home to more than 3,500 lions grouped into a couple dozen prides. Photographer Nick Nichols and videographer Nathan Williamson made several extended trips to the Serengeti between July 2011 and January 2013, determined to break new visual ground in their coverage of the Serengeti Lions”.
