These images show the unique bond a group of free divers formed with gigantic sperm whales. Swimming just inches away from the huge mammals, the divers are dwarfed in size, made to look like specks in comparison. The photos were taken by renowned underwater photographers Alexandre Roubaud and Alexandre Voyer, who are based in Paris but travel the world to capture such stunning imagery. The city of Meroë laid undiscovered for two millennia before British archaeologist John Garstang excavated it in the early 20th century. Garstang took the radical decision to document his discoveries with photography – and immortalised an ancient world. “Meroë: Africa’s Forgotten Empire” is being shown until 14 September at Garstang Museum of Archaeology, Liverpool. Divers swim beside millions of silverside fish at Devil's Grotto, Cayman Islands. Swimming in unison, millions of silverside fish dwarf the divers. The fish create waves of silver light as they move around the grottos that lie beneath the surface of the Caribbean Sea.
