The Field Training Week in Southern Israel, part of the IDF Infantry Instructors course, includes individual and group drills, navigation practice, sleeping in the field and camouflage training. “A Deserved Decoration”, 2012. IDF medic Anastasia Begdlov was a passenger on a civilian bus on the Israel-Egypt border last August when terrorists opened fire on it. Begdlov treated injured passengers immediately, improvising with whatever supplies she could reach. She used her bra as a tourniquet on a severely wounded man's knee, saving his life. Today, the IDF rewarded her with a military decoration. Begdlov is currently a cadet in officers' course.

Daniella Stepanoe steps in. She travels from base to base training everyone from paratroopers to elite special forces units in the use of their weapons.

Due to the increased tension in the area, a unique exercise was conducted in the beginning of November, practicing clashes with terrorists, storming at targets, and high-level camouflage, while confronted with mock explosives simulating real bombs.

“IDF Female Infantry Instructor Takes it All Out with Her Machine Gun”, May 17, 2011. IDF female infantry instructor tests her shooting ability by taking it all out with her machine gun. Today 90% of all military positions are available to women in the IDF. Karakal is a unisex combat unit which operates along the southern border of Israel. The elite dog unit, Oketz, is open to women, as well as various artillery and armored divisions. In 2006, during the Second Lebanon War, women were involved in field operations alongside men for the first time since the 1948 War of Independence.

Just last year, in 2011, Hamas fired 627 rockets and mortars from Gaza into Israel. In order to ensure security for all Israeli civilians, the IDF dispatches Emergency Situations Instructors to day schools, instructing the children how to protect themselves in case of emergency. In the picture is Cpl. Noy Eisen, teaching the children of Holon on proper procedures in emergency situations that can arise in Israel.
