Photographer Vincent Jansen travels throughout Europe, visiting beautiful abandoned places. He explores churches, factories, sanatoriums, mortuaries, villas and theaters, all quietly waiting for renovation or demolition. His photos show a unique perspective on what is happening behind the “no trespassing” signs: where nature is slowly gaining ground and the desolation, loneliness and decay leave their stunning traces.

This decayed home is in the middle of a block of three houses. I wonder if the neighbours know what's going on next to their bedrooms. (Photo by Vincent Jansen)

An abandoned chapel in a quiet, tiny village in Italy. The only sound you hear is the doves cooing while they leave their traces on the furniture. (Photo by Vincent Jansen)

An impressive car graveyard in the middle of a pine forest in Chatillon, a small village in Belgium. Rumours have it that these cars (a Chevy, Studebaker and Buick, among others) belonged to American soldiers who left them behind after World War II. The graveyard has been gone since 2012. This picture was taken in large, abandoned mansion in Belgium. It has been abandoned since the '80's, but someone's belongings are still there. School books, photographs, newspapers, even the beds ... all under a thick layer of dust and cobwebs. (Photo by Vincent Jansen)

This historical monument in Poland was built in 1796 and has been abandoned for more than sixty years. A sad sight, but also pleasing to the eye. A constantly changing spectacle of the sun's rays through the roof. (Photo by Vincent Jansen)
