A flock of Barnacle geese fly over a field in Parikkala, Finland on May 16, 2023. With a cacophony of honks resembling the sound of a hailstorm, tens of thousands of hungry geese blanket a lush green field in Finland with their black flocks. “There's probably around 20 to 30 hectares behind me, it is easily eaten in a day”, farmer Kari Pekonen tells AFP. In Finland's eastern Karelia region, home to boreal forests and wetlands, climate change is pushing local farmers into conflict with wildlife. (Photo by Alessandro Rampazzo/AFP Photo)

The neem tree (Azadirachta indica) is attacked by termites and a palm squirrel (Funambulus pennantii) wanders around the neem tree to eat those termites, occasionally hugging the tree as if it is its protector. The termite feeds on only the upper dry layer of the tree trunk and covers that portion with moist soil. They never attack the live and healthy trunk or any other healthy part of a tree. Squirrels like the taste of termites. Raw termites taste like pineapple, refreshing mint, or carrots. Termites are a rich source of protein, fat, zinc, iron, calcium, essential fatty acid, and amino acids such as tryptophan. This photo was taken at Tehatta, West Bengal, India on June 12, 2023. Cormorants (Guanay cormorant) rest on a rock at the Damas Island in Punta Choros, Coquimbo region, Chile on May 30, 2023. On the white sands of Isla Damas, in northern Chile, where tourists used to enjoy observing its rich fauna, today only sanitary brigades dressed in biosafety suits are seen searching for dead animals. Fear of bird flu forced the closure of the Humboldt Penguin National Reserve, in the Coquimbo region, where Damas Island is located and which is home to 56% of the reproductive pairs of this endemic species from Chile and Peru. The picture dated June 20, 2023 shows puffins on Skomer Island, off the Pembrokeshire coast in Wales. During breeding season from April to July, Skomer Island is home to the largest colony of puffins in Wales – and one of the largest in the whole of the UK. This year there are an estimated 42,000 individuals, more than ever before, and with plenty of newly-hatched pufflings in the burrows that need regular feeding many puffins are returning to their burrows with sand eels to feed their young. Both parents share the feeding duties until the chick is ready to fledge. (Photo by Martyn Foss/Bav Media)
