Open portraiture and Norway national award winner: Tina Signesdottir Hult. “Lina (pictured here) means a lot to me. We have been working together since she was nine. She runs like a red thread through my journey as a photographer. We have a very strong bond – we don’t always need to talk when we work. People often comment how fascinating it is to watch how we communicate, like a quiet dance”. (Photo by Tina Signesdottir Hult/Sony World Photography Awards 2018)

Open portraiture and UK national award winner: Nick Dolding. “I shot Emile in London when I was commissioned to shoot stills for a PayPal ad campaign. The campaign took its inspiration from Wes Anderson’s film The Royal Tenenbaums. Emile’s styling was so fantastic I couldn’t resist shooting a portrait of him. I wanted to retain the humour, but have him looking aloof and hoity-toity”. (Photo by Nick Dolding/Sony World Photography Awards 2018)
