Filipino inmates are seen inside a jail in Manila, Philippines, 15 July 2016. Recent figures released by the Philippine National Police (PNP) show that from July to September 2016 around 3,500 people have been killed during the anti-drug campaign, with over a 1,000 killed in police operations and the rest by so-called 'vigilantes' or in unexplained killings that are under investigation by the police. With a death rate of about 38 people per day, over 700,000 people involved in the drug trade 'voluntarily surrendered' to authorities for fear of being killed and over 16,000 have been arrested. Most of the targeted individuals are suspected by police or vigilantes of their involvement in illegal drug trade, including drug users and drug distributors. (Photo by Mark R. Cristino/EPA)
