Lucky birds came WHALE-Y close to being gobbled up by a hungry whale – swooping through its gaping jaws as they slammed shut. The cheeky birds were trying to poach fish being swallowed by the whale, but as they dived in the whale began to close its mighty mouth. Keen photographers Coke and Som Smith captured the incredible scene off Ban Taboon, a village around 50 miles southwest of Bangkok, Thailand. (Photo by Caters News)

Coke, 52, a teacher by day, revealed Brydes whales do sometimes inadvertently swallow birds. But these fortunate few were able to evade becoming lunch with less than a second to spare.
