In Dougie Wallace’s photos of Mumbai taxis, the chatter, yelling, and constant horns of the city are almost audible. A selection of his images is on show at Gayfield Creative Spaces, Edinburgh, as part of the Retina photography festival until 30 July. For four years, the Glasgow-born Wallace focused his photos on one kind of taxi in particular: the Premier Padmini, a 1960s workhorse painted in black and yellow. Locally known as “Kaali-Peeli”, there were once more than 60,000 of them in the Indian city. But thanks to laws restricting pollution, the cars now are fast disappearing from Mumbai’s streets. The policewoman in the photo, Medikintos Inabeza, 33, got left behind and then some protesters started to push her, saying that she had shot a female protestor in the stomach with an AK47 rifle. I didn't see anything of that. There were 5 or 10 protesters pushing the policewoman at first, then others came and joined in. Up to 20 or 30 protesters were surrounding her at one point. Edinburgh-based physicist-turned-web-designer Tom Beddard was inspired by geometry to create these virtual Fabergé fractals – made up of self-repeating patterns, so that structures within the object resemble the whole. “Within a 3D fractal, there is infinite detail”, says Beddard, 37. “The closer you zoom in, the more structure is revealed”. Beddard rendered the fractals using WebGL, a technology used to animate 3D scenes in a browser.

Scottish photographer George Logan and retoucher Tony Swinney let’s you imagine what it would be like if your cat wasn’t just a purring ball of fur. As a part of “Big Cat, Small Cat” ad campaign for Whiskas, they created a series of funny images showing tiny domestic cats chasing after antelopes, zebras, elephants and doing other “big cat” stuff.

At 19 inches high, the Flatmobile is the world’s lowest street legal car. It just so happens to be a replica of the Batmobile and has a jet engine that shoots 20 foot flames out of the rear! Ground clearance is at a whopping 2 inches! You could probably park this thing under a large SUV at your local supermarket.
