Eurostar, the company that runs passenger trains through the Channel tunnel between London and Paris, said it would buy seven additional e320 trains from Siemens for about 300 million pounds ($473 million). The company placed an order for 10 new trains in 2010, the first of which is due to enter commercial service next year, enabling the company to add new routes. (Photo by Andrew Winning/Reuters)

“To look into a whale’s eye is life-changing and humbling. Well, it’s the same with dolphins but they are mostly very fast in the water. A whale’s eye is unexpectedly looking, just like a human eye, kinda checking you out”. (Photo by Rita Kluge/The Guardian)

With the humpback calving season drawing to a close, here’s a look at some of Rita Kluge’s distinctive marine photos from the south Pacific. The Sydney-based photographer fell in love with whales after witnessing southern rights from the New South Wales coastline as they travelled to and from their feeding grounds in the Antarctic. She has since been to Tonga, where humpbacks breed and calf in winter months, to photograph them in the water. (Photo by Rita Kluge/The Guardian)

These photos were snapped at just the right moment – leading to some truly unusual images. Some of the pups are sticking out their tongue, while others are just looking at the camera – and the results are hilarious. Cat Race, 33, a dog photographer from Preston, Lancashire, in the U.K., captured the funny moments in the northwest of England over the past two years. Here: Tillie. Shokyo Miura, a Buddhist monk and one of the on-site priests, poses for pictures outside Tera Cafe in Tokyo, Japan, April 1, 2016. At first glance, the cafe, which also serves alcohol, looks like any other except for an altar next to the countertop bar with a Buddha statue set against a gold backdrop. The menu confirms this is something different. It lists classes for 1,500 yen ($14) in weaving prayer beads, calligraphy with sutras, or lines of scripture, and consultations with a Buddhist priest.
