These stunning photographs may look like alien planets, but they are actually satellite images of planet Earth. Commercial satellite company DigitalGlobe recently released the images as a way of highlighting the incredible detail of their imagery – the highest-resolution commercial satellite imagery in the world. Some of the images – taken above Afghanistan, Algeria, Peru, Russia and the United States – look more like abstract works by Mondrian than segments of the globe. French photographer and director Romain Laurent started making portrait-based GIFs as a way to produce work outside his commercial jobs, a spontaneous project that would encourage him to produce consistently for himself rather than clients.

Alexis Marcou is a visual artist known for his commercial and self initiated work. He has done freelance work for clients such as Nike, Inc., Atomic Skis, Hewlett Packard, Cisco, Gatorade, Boehringer Ingelheim, BMW and Acco Brands.
