Ebiowei, 48, carries an empty oil container on his head to a place where it would be filled with refined fuel at an illegal refinery site near river Nun in Nigeria's oil state of Bayelsa November 27, 2012. Locals in the industry say workers can earn $50 to $60 a day. Thousands of people in Nigeria engage in a practice known locally as “oil bunkering” – hacking into pipelines to steal crude then refining it or selling it abroad. The practice, which leaves oil spewing from pipelines for miles around, managed to lift around a fifth of Nigeria's two million barrel a day production last year according to the finance ministry. Fresa, 5, stands inside the dog shelter “Santuario Milagros Caninos” on the outskirts of Mexico City August 29 2014. Fresa underwent reconstructive surgery after her previous owners hacked off half of her snout with a sharp object, possibly a machete, according to surgeon Jesus Paredes. After neighbours found Fresa wandering on the streets, they handed her over to a shelter where Paredes performed a three-hours intervention to enable her to breathe again through her nostrils, to remove her protruding jaw and reconstruct the lips with flaps of skin and mucous. This Monday, September 15, 2014 photo shows glazed bricks displayed at the Iraqi National Museum in Baghdad. The Islamic State militants seek to purge society of all influences that don't conform with their strict, puritanical version of Islam. That means destroying not only relics seen as pagan but also Muslim sites they see as contradicting their ideology, particularly Sunni Muslim shrines they see as idolatrous as well as mosques used by Shiites, a branch of Islam they consider heretical.
